Studying in Würzburg
– the sunniest city in Germany!
The city of Würzburg is located in Lower Franconia in the north-west of Bavaria and is known for its exquisite wines. With 130,000 inhabitants, Würzburg may not be the largest city in Bavaria, but it has a lot to offer! In addition to a thriving cultural and entertainment programme, Würzburg is characterised by its vineyards, the central Ringpark and the banks of the River Main.
Nightlife
Where there are students, there is also a vibrant nightlife. Different styles of music, venues, theme parties… Würzburg has something for everyone:
Sanderstraße is a great place to start the night and invites you to go out with its many bars. It is located right in the centre of Würzburg and is only a two-minute walk from the THWS buildings in Münzstraße.
Culture
Würzburg is a city with a lot of culture. Whether you are interested in historical architecture or want to immerse yourself in the vibrant city life and experience all the festivals – there is plenty to discover!
There are many festivals in Würzburg in summer. One of the most exciting is perhaps the ‘Umsonst und Draußen’, a festival for art and music – and it’s free and outdoors.
Another interesting festival is the ‘STRAMU’ (Festival for Street Art). It is a festival with music, dance and many other activities that takes place in the streets of Würzburg.
If you want to get in touch with the local culture and enjoy the best wines of the Mainfranken region at the same time, you can visit one of the many wine festivals that take place from spring to autumn. There are wine tastings with regional cuisine in many places in Würzburg, but perhaps one of the most elegant is the Hofgarten Wine Festival in the courtyard garden of the Würzburg Residence.
In winter, you should definitely visit one of the many cosy Christmas markets that can be found in Würzburg from the end of November to mid-December. Small market stalls offer regional products, from handicrafts, decorations and gifts to winter sweets and other local foods. There’s also plenty of mulled wine to warm your hands and your heart.
Nature & Outdoor-adventures
There are many picturesque places to relax in Würzburg when you need a break from studying and working.
In addition to the Ringpark, the vineyards and the green banks of the Main, you can also go for a walk in one of the many forests around Würzburg, go mountain biking or simply relax and unwind.
